Plan what comes next Included

Your future,
one decision at a time.

The big decisions of your degree — deadlines, funding and past-student experience for each one. Part of a free PlacementFlow account, with no university connection required.

Three stops on one line: Electives, the Foundation Programme and Intercalation. Where the line ends up: F1.

Your future

Three stops between today and F1.

Each stop is a guide with its own deadlines, its own funding questions and its own set of past-student experience. The label on each one says what is open today.

Stop 1

Electives

A guided journey through planning, applying for, funding and completing your elective, plus reports from students who have been. Read the guide, then read what the year above found when they got there.

  • Planning, applying, funding and completing, in order.
  • Reports from students, by destination.

Opens after content review. The guide is written and is being checked before it is shown.

Stop 2

Foundation Programme Included

Your source-backed route through UKFP 2027, from nomination to the handover into F1. Nine guided stages across four views — Journey, Application, Schools and F1 Prep — with times shown in Europe/London.

  • 9 guided stages, each with its source shown.
  • Available on a free account today.
The nine stages
Stop 3

Intercalation Coming soon

Your BSc year and the intercalation options open to you. The same shape as the other two stops: what the decision involves, when it has to be made, and what it costs.

Coming soon. Not yet available on any account.

Foundation Programme · UKFP 2027

From nomination to F1, in nine stages. Included

The national application process has a fixed order and a small number of deadlines that cannot be missed. The Foundation journey lays that order out as nine stages, says what happens at each one, what you do and what the national process does, and shows the source for every claim.

  • Four views: Journey, Application, Schools and F1 Prep.
  • Source-backed. Each stage cites the published guidance it is drawn from. Official records govern national dates and process.
  • Honest about dates. Stages whose dates have not been published say so, rather than guessing.
  • Times shown in Europe/London, so a deadline reads the way it will fall.
The student's Your future screen: a journey line from today to F1 with three stops — Electives (in review), Foundation Programme showing the UKFP 2027 cycle's next milestone and stage 2 of 9, and Intercalation (coming soon).

The nine stages

What happens, in the order it happens.

  1. 01Nomination. Your medical school supplies the nomination that lets you enter the national process.
  2. 02Oriel access. Confirm your nomination in Oriel, using the link in your nomination email, before starting the application.
  3. 03Application. Complete and submit the national application through Oriel inside the published window — no extensions, no edits after submission.
  4. 04Pre-allocation. If your circumstances appear to match one of the official national criteria, apply under that criterion with the evidence, in the same window.
  5. 05Foundation School preferencing. Rank every Foundation School in your genuine order of choice; you can revise the order until the published deadline.
  6. 06Foundation School allocation. Oriel allocates using a computer-generated rank and your stated preferences.
  7. 07Programme preferencing. Rank the groups or programmes available within your allocated Foundation School.
  8. 08Programme matching. You are matched to one two-year programme, using the same rank and your programme preferences.
  9. 09Preparing for F1. Supporting Trainees Entering Practice, employer induction and the mandatory shadowing period before F1 begins.
Sources, not predictions. The journey reports what the national guidance has published. Historical allocation figures are not a forecast of your result, and PlacementFlow cannot decide whether you qualify for pre-allocation. When a date is awaiting publication, the stage says so.

What Included means

Part of a free account. Nothing else required.

Free, on any account

Foundation and career guidance is part of a free PlacementFlow account. There is nothing to unlock and no university connection to wait for.

No university connection required

The placement record switches on when your university joins. This guidance does not wait for that — it is national content, open to every student with an account.

Educational, not careers advice

The guidance is educational and is not careers advice from any institution. The official national records govern dates and process, and your own school's guidance governs its part.

Questions

Before you open it.

Do I need my university to be connected?

No. Foundation and career guidance is included with a free account and does not depend on a university connection. The placement record — timetable, attendance, sign-offs — is the part that switches on when your university joins.

Is this official careers advice?

No. It is educational guidance that organises the published national process into a readable journey, with a source shown for each stage. It is not careers advice from any institution, and the official national records govern every date and rule.

Where do the dates come from?

From the published national timeline and guidance the journey cites. Where a date has not yet been published, the stage says it is awaiting publication rather than estimating one. Times are shown in Europe/London.

When do Electives and Intercalation open?

The Electives guide is written and opens after its content review completes; until then the stop shows that it is in review. Intercalation is coming soon and is not yet available on any account.
